Aleksandra Kolosova

PhD student

Biography

My name is Aleksandra Kolosova, and I am in the first year of my PhD at the Brighton and Sussex Medical School (BSMS). I am working on a project that aims to unravel how AML cells subvert the bone marrow microenvironment and whether this remodelling is heterogeneous or involves recurrent changes. This can further be used for the potential development of targeted therapeutic strategies.

Before pursuing my PhD, I completed my BSc and MSc in Genetics at Swansea University (2019-2023). My Master’s project was dedicated to resolving the evolution of three SAM-dependant methyltransferases, namely, NNMT, PNMT and INMT, which were found to be implicated in the development of many diseases, including different types of cancer. This motivated and inspired me to continue pursuing my research journey in studying the underlying pathogenesis of AML.
